Senior Vivian Lin Wins Decisive Singles Point
En Español
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (7-7) defeated Texas State 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. Senior Vivian Lin won the decisive point for the Matadors, claiming her No. 5 singles draw with a 4-6, 6-4 and 7-5 victory. Fellow seniors Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei also won their singles matches and the Matadors swept the Bobcats in doubles play.Â
The Matadors put together a solid performance that impressed head coach Gary Victor.Â
"We played a tough and well-coached team today, one that plays hard and with great respect for the game and their opponents. I am very happy for Vivian to win the deciding match and she played through her ups and downs today very well," said Victor. "We lost four first sets in singles but came back fighting to win three of four second sets with Skyla forcing a tiebreaker. It was a great day for our seniors, who won in both singles and doubles to help lead us to the victory."Â
In doubles play, Poei and Hsu improved to 5-4 on the season with a 6-4 win in the top draw. In the third draw, Arpe Bagumyan teamed with Lin for the first time this season and posted a 6-3 victory in the third draw to seal the early 1-0 advantage for CSUN.Â
In singles, the seniors led the way for the Matadors. Poei pushed CSUN ahead 2-1 with a straight-set win in the fourth draw to improve to 7-3 on the season. Hsu then won in three sets, capturing the final two after dropping the opening frame, in the No. 1 match to improve to 5-2 on the year. Finally, Lin also overcame a loss in the first set to win 4-6, 6-4 and 7-5 in the fifth draw and improve to 3-10 on the season.Â
CSUN returns to action on Monday, Mar. 20 with a home contest at 11 a.m. against Princeton.Â
