Matadors Win Three Doubles and Two Singles Matches
LOS ANGELES -- The CSUN women's tennis team (4-5) defeated Cal State LA 5-0 at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex on Friday. Using Division II rules where each doubles match is worth one point and the teams play to a best-of-nine format, the Matadors swept the doubles and took the first two singles matches to finish to earn the road victory.Â
In doubles action, Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu won their No. 1 match 8-2 to improve to 2-2 on the season. In the second draw, Skyla Alcon and Emma Roenholt also scored an 8-2 decision and are now 2-0 on the season as a tandem. In the third doubles, Vivian Lin and Kiryang Kim won 9-7 to move to 2-2 on the year.Â
In singles, Kim stormed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the top draw and is now 4-3 on the season. Poei then won in straight sets 6-4 and 6-4 in the sixth draw to conclude the match. She is also now 4-3 on the season.Â
In unfinished matches, Hsu won the first set in her No. 2 draw and Roenholt also had won the first set in her fourth draw. Alcon competed in the third draw and Lin was in the middle of her No. 5 match when play was halted because a final result had been established.Â
Winners of two straight, the Matadors host the New Mexico Lobos at Matador Tennis Complex on Saturday, Mar. 4. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.Â
