Senior Mickey Hsu Wins Decisive Point in No. 2 Singles
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (5-5) defeated New Mexico 4-3 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at Matador Tennis Complex. After winning the doubles point, seniors Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei and sophomore Skyla Alcon won in singles competition to help lift the Matadors to the win over the Lobos and extend their winning streak to three-straight matches.Â
"Today was a great effort from our squad against a solid opponent," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "We are starting to get healthy and that is translating to the court and in the results. We are excited to be back at home for a while against a tough slate of opponents."
In doubles action, Hsu and Poei won their third-straight match at the No. 1 draw. They captured a 6-4 decision to tie doubles at 1-1 after UC Davis won at No. 2. Senior Vivian Lin and junior Kiryang Kim then took the point for CSUN with a 6-4 victory in the third draw. Both victorious CSUN doubles teams improved to 3-2 on the season.Â
In singles action, Poei was the first to finish and posted a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory in the sixth draw to improve to 5-3 and tie for the team lead in victories. After New Mexico pulled back a point, Alcon posted a 6-4, 6-3 win in the third draw to improve to 3-4 on the season.Â
The Lobos won the next two singles matches to finish, tying the score at 3-3. Hsu then posted a 6-2, 2-6 and 6-2 victory in the second draw to score the winning point. She is now 2-1 on the season.Â
