Matadors Post Fourth-Straight Win in Defeat of Jackrabbits
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (6-5) won its fourth-straight match with a 7-0 victory over South Dakota State Tuesday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. CSUN swept the doubles point with solid performances and then took five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Â
After starting the season 2-5, CSUN has come on strong lately and now stands one game over .500 for the season. In doubles, Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei improved to 4-2 on the season with a 6-1 victory in the top draw. Vivian Lin and Kiryang Kim also improved to 4-2 on the season with a 6-4 victory in the third draw while Skyla Alcon and Emma Roenholt moved to 3-1 on the year with a 6-1 victory in the third draw.Â
In singles action, Kim won for the first time at the No. 1 draw, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-0, to improve to 5-4 on the season. Hsu won 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 2 draw for her third-straight win on the season to improve to 3-1. Alcon won 6-3 and 6-4 to even her season record at 4-4 in the third draw.Â
Roenholt continued her strong rookie year with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the fourth draw to move to 6-3 on the season. Lin snapped a losing streak with a 2-6, 6-3 and 10-7 victory in the fifth draw while Poei also improved to 6-3 on the season with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.Â
CSUN continues its season with a match against Harvard at Knollwood Country Club on Mar. 15. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.Â
