NORTHRIDGE, CA - Junior Felix Mory fired a final round two-over 74 Tuesday to post his fourth top 10 finish of the season at the Cal Poly Shootout at Cypress Ridge G.C. in Arroyo Grande.
As a team, CSUNÂ posted a final round 379 in the six team, score five format. The Matadors opened the day in sixth place after Monday rounds of 375-357 but posted a team total of 379 on Tuesday to slip into seventh.
"We just couldn't get anything going all day, it really came down to poor execution," said CSUN head coach Jim Bracken. "We're a better team than we showed today but obviously we've got some work to do over the next two weeks to get ready for conference."Â
Mory, who has been CSUN's low scorer in all but two tournaments this season, was tied for fourth after rounds of 71-68 on Monday. But his two-over 74 on Tuesday dropped him into a tie for 10th place at three-under 213.
Senior Sam Engel narrowly missed his first top 20 finish of the season as he tied for 27th at seven-over 223. Engel followed up Monday rounds of 75-73 with a final round three-over 75. Senior Tavit Garabedian had a tournament of highs and lows and he posted his high round of the season (85) and low round of the season (66) on Monday before posting a final round five-over 77. Garabedian finished tied for 41st with teammate Tomas Skajem at 12-over 228.
Skajem had his low round of the tournament Tuesday as his final round two-over 74 capped his total of 12-over 228.
Junior Trym Falch was another stroke back as he tied for 44th at 12-over 229 following rounds of 75-75-79 and Michael Zhang finished 57th at 28-over 244 with scores of 75-83-86.
UC Santa Barbara captured the team title with a team score of 22-under 1058 while David Kim of UC Irvine was individual medalist at eight-under 208.
CSUN is next in action at the Big West Championship as the Matadors will aim for their first ever Big West Championship at Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta (May 1-3).
