Taylor Glover Doubles to Score Tara Kliebenstein in Bottom Seventh
En Español
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the CSUN Softball team (27-16, 7-5 Big West) scored a run in both the sixth and seventh inning to defeat Cal Poly 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Matador Diamond. In the bottom of the seventh, Tara Kliebenstein drew a four-pitch walk, Mackenzie Babbitt bunted a single to the catcher and Taylor Glover blasted an RBI double over the head of the center fielder to give CSUN the walk-off win and series victory.Â
Glover's dramatics came as the result of a hard-fought game from both sides in a pivotal Big West Conference series. CSUN starter Daphne Pofek (13-6) had a no-hitter with two outs in the sixth only to see the Mustangs rally for a two-out, two-run double and take a 2-1 lead.Â
The Matadors responded immediately, tying the game in their half of the sixth. With two outs, Madison Fleming roped an RBI double to left that scored Glover, who recorded her 90th career stolen base earlier in the frame. The double was Fleming's fourth of the season and she now has a career-high 23 RBIs on the year.
Pofek was tough all day and helped lead CSUN to the win with a gritty performance. Through the first five innings, Cal Poly did not have a hit and only reached base through an error and hit-by-pitch. She finished with two strikeouts, a walk and induced 12 ground outs in the victory.Â
In the bottom of the first, Babbitt reached on a fielding error and moved to second on the play. Glover put down a sacrifice bunt and Jessica Alexander picked up her 34th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to center.Â
Glover is just the second player in Big West Conference history to reach 90 career stolen bases. Her game-winning double was the 40th of her career, making her just the third player in program history to reach the total. She also recorded her team-leading 21st multi-hit game of the season.Â
The Matadors return to action on Wednesday, April 26 with a 3 p.m. contest against UCLA at Matador Diamond. The game will be a celebration in honor of the return of softball to the 2020 Olympic Games and there will be a post-game autograph session featuring former Team USA players and coaches from CSUN and UCLA.Â
