Senior Katie Hooper Collects School-Record 46th Career Double
En Español
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- Katie Hooper set a new school record with her 46th career double and Taylor Glover moved into third in Big West Conference history in career hits, but the CSUN softball team (27-17) lost 5-0 to No. 12 UCLA Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Matador Diamond. Hooper roped a ball down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie with Sandra Milchiker for the most two-base hits in program history.Â
A Burbank, CA native, Hooper has now had double-digit doubles in all four of her seasons at CSUN. With at least nine games remaining on the schedule, Hooper sits at 10 for the year and will try to break her career high of 13. For the season, she is batting .350 with 18 runs, two triples, seven home runs and 29 RBIs.Â
Glover singled in the first and doubled in the third to end the day with 281 hits, moving past former Pacific All-American Gina Carbonatto for third in Big West Conference history. The double was the 41st of her career and she is batting .434 with 31 runs, 11 doubles, a triple, six home runs, 35 RBIs and 21 stolen bases on the season.Â
On USA Day at Matador Diamond, the Bruins and Matadors played a tight contest for the first six innings. CSUN starter Daphne Pofek (13-7) did a good job of keeping the UCLA bats quiet and went five innings with two strikeouts and one earned run despite taking the loss. The Bruins struck for a two-out run in the top of the second.Â
Taylor Troost had a quiet sixth inning to keep CSUN within 1-0, but the Matadors could not push across in the bottom half of the frame and UCLA tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh. Rebecca Bell and Katie Chenault saw time in the circle during the inning as well.Â
Mackenzie Babbitt had CSUN's fourth hit and Savannah Horvath recorded her 11th stolen base of the season and 48th of her career.Â
CSUN closes out its 2017 home schedule this upcoming weekend with a three-game series against UC Riverside. The Matadors and Highlanders will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 29 and a single game on Sunday, April 30. Before Sunday's game, the Matadors will honor 10 seniors participating in their final game at Matador Diamond. Both days are slated for a 1 p.m. start.Â
