NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (29-18, 9-6 Big West) rallied for a 6-1 victory on Senior Day in the finale of a Big West Conference series against UC Riverside Sunday afternoon at Matador Diamond. Savannah Horvath finished 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs while Jessica Rothanzl went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored and Daphne Pofek delivered a complete-game performance as the Matadors took the league series against the Highlanders for the fifth-straight season.Â
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Horvath blasted a two-out, two-run home run to put CSUN ahead 2-1. The deep fly was the 31st of her career, tying her with teammate Katie Hooper for fifth in program history and 10th in Big West Conference history. For the season, Horvath is batting .333 with 10 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 33 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.Â
Rothanzl came through huge in her final game at Matador Diamond. She delivered a single in the bottom of the fourth and blasted a double in the sixth to post her first two career hits as a Matador. She also scored a run and Haileigh Gonzalez, who pinch-ran for her in the fourth, also scored.Â
Pofek (14-7) recorded her 12th complete game of the season and had seven strikeouts in the win. For the season, she sports a 2.16 ERA, 74 Ks and a .213 opponent batting average in 133 innings of work.Â
The Highlanders struck for a run in the second, but Pofek worked through a tough jam to limit the damage. Horvath then put CSUN ahead for good in the third with a towering blast to left field, scoring Tara Kliebenstein on the play.Â
In the fourth, Habitz executed a sac bunt to put runners on second and third with one out. Kliebenstien then delivered a single to left to score Madison Fleming and Mackenzie Babbitt recorded an RBI to put CSUN ahead 4-1.Â
In the sixth, CSUN added two more insurance runs. Rothanzl led off the frame with a double to center and then scored on an RBI single from Habitz. Horvath then delivered another two-out RBI with a single to score Pudi Hernandez, who ran for Habitz.Â
CSUN finished with a 15-5 record at Matador Diamond in 2017, including a 7-2 mark in Big West Conference play.
