NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (29-18, 9-6 Big West) travels to Cal State Fullerton this weekend for a key three-game Big West Conference series at Anderson Family Field. All three games will feature live stats and Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with Trent Rush and Erin Jones-Wesley calling all the action. Links for the multimedia can be found on the softball schedule page at GoMatadors.com and updates will also be tweeted out on the CSUN Softball's official account (@CSUNSoftball).Â
Last week, the Matadors won their Big West series against UC Riverside for the fifth-straight season. Although they lost to the Highlanders in game two of the series, the Matadors responded with a strong performance on Senior Day. Savannah Horvath hit a key two-run home run, Jessica Rothanzl produced the first two hits of her CSUN career and Daphne Pofek delivered a complete-game performance to help the Matadors send 10 seniors out a winner in their final game at Matador Diamond.Â
The Matadors and Titans currently sit first and second in the Big West standings, making this weekend's series a pivotal one in the quest for the 2017 Big West Championship. If CSUN wins its final six games of the season, the Matadors will win the Big West title. However, that will require the Matadors to post their first season sweep of the Titans since the 1998 season.Â
The Titans carry a 29-19 overall record and 12-3 mark in Big West Conference play. The Titans have won nine-straight games in league play, sweeping UC Davis, Hawai'i and Long Beach State in the process. Delynn Rippy leads the team with a .348 batting average and has six doubles while Ariana Williams sports a .345 batting average, 10 extra-base hits and a team-high 21 stolen bases. Alexis Gonzalez leads the squad with nine doubles, eight home runs and 36 RBIs.Â
In the circle, Kelsey Kessler is 17-6 with a 1.47 ERA and .212 opponent batting average in 152 innings of work. Opponents have totaled 32 doubles, eight triples, 19 home runs and 27 stolen bases in 331 innings of work.Â
