En Español
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- Senior Daphne Pofek tossed a pair of complete-game victories to help lift the CSUN softball team (24-13, 4-2 Big West) defeated Hawai'i 5-2 and 3-2 Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference doubleheader at Matador Diamond. Taylor Glover had four hits, four RBIs and two stolen bases over the two games, including her sixth home run of the season, and Katie Hooper and Karlie Habitz recorded multi-hit games as the Matadors swept the league series with the Rainbow Wahine.Â
Pofek (11-4) was spectacular in the circle for CSUN, allowing only one earned run over 14 innings of work. In game one, she had four strikeouts and worked around six hits and a pair of walks. In game two, she had three strikeouts and scattered six hits. For the weekend, she sported a 0.50 ERA and .207 opponent batting average. For the season, she is 11-4 with a 2.25 ERA, 59 strikeouts and a .216 opponent batting average in 93.1 innings of work.Â
Game One Recap
Glover finished 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, a home run and two stolen bases. Hooper went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jessica Alexander and Taylor Nate each had an RBI. Savannah Horvath punched her eighth double of the season and CSUN produced eight hits in the victory.Â
In the bottom of the first, Glover singled with one out and then stole second. On the play, the throw kicked into left field and she advanced to third. Hooper then drove her home with an RBI single. In the second, Mackenzie Babbitt singled and then scored when Taylor Nate drew a bases-loaded walk.Â
Glover doubled the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a towering shot to right. Tara Kliebenstein scored on the play after starting the inning with a single.Â
Hawai'i struck back with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth to draw within 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth, the Matadors added an insurance run with an RBI groundout from Alexander to score Nate.Â
Game Two Recap
Habitz went 2-for-3 with an RBI single while Glover was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a sac fly. Nate had a single, a walk and a run scored to extend her school record to 30-straight games reaching safely. Horvath recorded her second triple, Babbitt posted her sixth stolen base and Kliebenstein executed her fifth sac bunt of the year in the win.Â
Just as in game one, the Matadors scored a run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. Nate started the game with a single to right and a two-base fielding error moved her all the way to third. She then scored on Glover's team-leading fifth sac fly of the season.Â
After Hawai'i tied the game in the top of the second on a solo home run, Habitz started the bottom of the third with a single. She moved to second on Kliebenstein's sacrifice and Haileigh Gonzalez then came into run for her. She then scored on an RBI single from Glover to restore the CSUN lead.Â
The Matadors scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth. Babbitt reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second. The extra 60 feet proved vital as she then scored on an RBI single from Habitz.Â
The Rainbow Wahine struck for one run in the top of the seventh, but Pofek got the last out of the game with a strikeout and the tying run on third.Â
