Mory Leads Heading Into Final Round of Big West Championship

NORTHRIDGE, CA - CSUN junior Felix Mory fired his second consecutive round of four-under 68 and carries a one stroke lead into Wednesday's final round of the 2017 Big West Championship at Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta, CA.
Mory, who led by one shot after a first round 68, was even through seven holes Tuesday before posting birdies at the eighth and ninth holes. A bogey four at No. 11 dropped him back to one-over before three birdies over his final six holes propelled him to four-under 68 for the day and eight under 136 for the championship.
Mory's two round total is the lowest by a Matador player in 16 years competing in the Big West Championship.
As a team, CSUNÂ moved up from fourth into a tie for third with Long Beach State at 569. The Matadors followed up Monday's round of 284 with a 285 on Tuesday. UC Santa Barbara (561) fired a second round 279 to move into sole possession of first place by six shots over Cal Poly (567).
Senior Tavit Garabedian fired a two-under 70 on Tuesday to move to even-par for the championship. Garabedian had a pair of birdies on both the front and back nines to move up 14 spots into the top 15 at even-par 144.
Fellow senior Sam Engel followed up his round of 72 Monday with a one-over 73 on Tuesday which dropped him three spots to 20th at one-over 145. Tomas Skajem, who began the day 10th, was even through nine holes but posted four bogeys and a single birdie on the back nine to slip to 25th at two-over 146.
Trym Falch finished the day at two-over 74 and is tied for 30th at three-over 147 heading into the final round.
CSUNÂ will be paired with UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly for the final round which is slated to tee off Wednesday at 8:20 a.m.
