As a team, Siena was selected fourth in the preseason MAAC coaches' poll. Milorad Sobot, the Saints' captain, earned preseason All-Conference. This is the first time CSUN is taking on the Saints in men's soccer. CSUN holds an all-time record of 25-12-2 in its season openers and a 29-10 mark in its home openers
Â
The Matadors host Saint Mary's Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. The first 200 fans that come through the turnstiles will receive a free Matador Spirit shirt. Coming off an 8-8-3 2016 campaign, the Gaels open the 2017 season Friday night at UC Santa Barbara.

With one first place vote, Saint Mary's was selected fifth in the preseason West Coast Conference coaches' poll. Senior defender Ben Braman, a 2016 second team All-Conference selection, was named to the WCC's preseason All-Conference team.
Â
Sunday's match is the eighth time that CSUN and Saint Mary's are playing men's soccer. The Matadors lead the all-time series 5-2 and have four in a row dating back to a 1999 2-1 SMC overtime victory at Saint Mary's.

The score remained 0-0 after the first 45 minutes with both teams recording four shots. The Lions posted three consecutive corner kicks in the 10th and 11th minutes before the Matador defense turned away the scoring chances.
Â
LMU took the lead at the 54:16 mark when CSUN goalie Henrik Regitnig made a save on a Kris Fourcand shot. The rebound came back out in front where Griffin Bell gained possession, took a shot and scored. The Lions scored again in the 80th minute. John Bovill took a shot that Regitnig saved. The rebound again came out in front to Francis Avoce who made an attempt that Regitnig turned away. The ball remained out front where Matt Gooden converted on the third attempt for a goal.
