NORTHRIDGE, CA---
CSUN Women's Soccer (3-2-4) suffered a 3-0 loss to Texas Tech (7-2) on Monday morning at John Walker Complex in Lubbock, TX. Cynthia Sanchez collected a team-best three shots while Ariana Tran, Lindsay Kutscher and Amber Edemann all finished with two shots apiece. Jovani McCaskill picked up six saves in defeat.Â
After weather washed away the possibility of playing on Sunday evening, the Matadors and Red Raiders finally kicked off in a Monday morning matchup. The Matadors earned the first shot of the game on a right-footed attempt from Kutscher near the top of the box, however Texas Tech would answer back with the game's first goal on its first strike of the day.Â
With the ball at midfield, Gwennie Puente found a charging Ally Griffin on the break up the field. Griffin made her way into the box and sent a low shot at the right near post. The shot just made it past a moving McCaskill to put the Red Raiders ahead 1-0 in the third minute of play.Â
CSUNÂ went back on the attack looking for the equalizer. Tran forced goalkeeper Carissa Christensen to make a two-handed save and both Sanchez and Bret Guarino each deposited shots high of the goal. Kirsten Von Meter also nearly found the back of the net on a header in the 26th minute.Â
Following a pair of CSUN corner kicks, Texas Tech would double its lead near intermission. In the 42nd minute, Carly Wickenheiser hit the crossbar from the left wing resulting in a loose ball near the net. After CSUN attempted a clear out, Savanna Jones cleaned up the play with a shot from under 10 yards to give her team a 2-0 advantage.Â
As they did in the first half, the Red Raiders struck quickly on their first shot of the second period as Jade King hit the netting in the 52nd minute.Â
The Matadors collected eight shots in the second half including seven after the King strike but the Red Raiders withstood every attack down the stretch. Kutscher picked up a shot on goal in the 61st minute while Sanchez forced another save four minutes later. Also, Edemann and Sanchez each had their shots blocked in the second half.Â
McCaskill made four of her six saves in the second half as she turned back two shots from Griffin and attempts from King and Alexis Rushlow.Â
The Red Raiders finished with a 17-14 advantage in shots and posted nine shots on goal compared to three for the Matadors. Texas Tech also held a narrow 6-5 edge in corner kicks for the match. CSUN was whistled for five fouls while Texas Tech committed 13.Â
CSUN returns home this weekend for its final non-conference matches of the season. The Matadors host Grand Canyon on Friday evening at 7 p.m. before taking on San Diego on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on the CSUN Sports Network via Big West.TV.Â
