CSUN Drops A Pair To Ohio State And North Dakota State

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 16/17 Ohio State the Matadors fell short in a 12-6 rain-shortened loss to North Dakota State Wednesday at Matador Diamond.

CSUN-OHIO STATE
Savannah Horvath's 10th home run of the year gave the Matadors a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Buckeyes loaded the bases in the top of the second prior to a Lilli Piper RBI single that tied the game.

The bases remained loaded before Emily Clark reached on an error and advanced to third on throw. The bases cleared on the play to give Ohio State a 4-1 lead. The Buckeyes would complete the scoring with an unearned run in the fourth.

Buckeye starter Morgan Ray struck out 11 and allowed only one other hit after Horvath's homer. CSUN starter Taylor Troost scattered seven hits as she struck out five in a complete game effort. Piper posted a 3-for-3 performance for the Buckeyes (17-2). The teams will play again Saturday during the Cal State Fullerton Easton Invitational. Â

North Dakota State (12-7) led CSUN 7-0 after four innings, but the Matadors (10-19) scored six runs over the final two innings. The Bison exploded for five runs in both the fourth and six innings.

Tabby Heinz led the Bison as she tied a school record with three doubles in three at-bats. Heinz led a group of five Bison players with 2 or more hits. Bre Beatty went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, Zoe Stavrou went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Stephanie Soriano and Montana DeCamp both had two hits. Mackenzie Babbitt went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Megan Stevens knocked in two runs with a triple for CSUN. Horvath also scored two runs

Jacquelyn Sertic recorded the win for NDSU. She struck out nine, allowed eight hits and walked two. Jillian James, Kenedee Jamerson, Stevens and Cheyenne Noli pitched for the Matadors with James picking up the loss. The foursome combined to strike out six and walk four.

CSUN begins Easton Invitational play on Friday at 3:30 p.m. against No. 5 Oklahoma, the defending Division I national champions. The day concludes at 6 p.m. against Nebraska.
