CSUN Enters Big West Women's Basketball Tournament This Week

The postseason has begun for the CSUN women's basketball team as the Matadors head to Cal State Fullerton Tuesday night to begin the Big West Conference Tournament.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The postseason has begun for the CSUN women's basketball team as the Matadors head to Cal State Fullerton Tuesday night to begin the Big West Conference Tournament.

CSUN (15-15, 8-8 BWC) is the fifth seed and will face the eighth seed, Hawai'i at 6 p.m. Coverage on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health is set for 5:55 p.m. with Eric Kaback on the call. ESPN 3 has the video portion of the broadcast. Trent Rush will be doing the play-by-play with Richie Schueler in the color role. Courtney Sweet will serve as the sideline reporter.

The Rainbow Wahine enter the post season with a 12-17 overall record and were 5-11 in Big West play. Sarah Toeaina leads the team in scoring and is fifth in the Big West in the scoring at 16.2 points per game. Toeaina is fourth in field goal shooting (.518),

Tia Kanoa is the conference leader in assists (4.9) while Makenna Woodfolk is eighth in the league in rebounding (6.2) and free throw shooting (.725). The teams split a pair of game this season. The Matadors defeated Hawai'i 70-58 Jan. 25 in Honolulu while the Rainbow Wahine defeated CSUN 56-54 Feb. 22 in Northridge.

Playing in the 6-7 game on Tuesday night will be Long Beach State and UC Riverside. That start is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday's action at Cal State Fullerton will see No. 3 UC Irvine face the lowest seed remaining after day one at 6 p.m. with No. 4 UC Santa Barbara taking on highest seed remaining at 8:30 p.m. All of the action will be streamed by the ESPN 3 team.

After a one-day hiatus, action resumes at The Honda Center at 12 p.m. when No. 1 UC Davis takes on the lowest remaining seed. At 2:30 p.m. No. 2 Cal Poly faces the highest remaining seed. The action again will be streamed by ESPN 3. The championship is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. when Fox Sports Prime Ticket takes over on the video side. Sam Farber, Tammy Blackburn, and Sweet will be on-air for the game. The winner of the tournament receives the automatic berth in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.

CSUN is a two-time Big West Tournament champion, winning the tournament in 2014 and 2015. The Matadors have taken part in every Big West Tournament since 2005 and have a 10-9 all-time record. CSUN advanced to the semifinals last year before losing 61-60 to the eventual champion, Long Beach State.

Tessa Boagni has a chance to reach the 1,000-career point plateau on Tuesday. She has scored 989 points after posting 39 last week during CSUN's 1-1 week. Channon Fluker reached 1,000 career rebounds against UC Irvine and is now eighth in Big West history with 1,014. She is 1-of-11 active Division I players with at least 1,000 points (1,514) and 1,000 rebounds.
