SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—Cal Poly defeated CSUN 1-0 n the final game of a Big West Conference softball series Sunday afternoon.

Kira Cauley led off the CSUN third with a single to left. Cauley stole second with Raquel Jaime at the plate. Raquel Jaime grounded out to third, but Cauley could not advance. Julianna Martinez reached on an infield single deep in the hole at short. With runners on first and second, Cal Poly starter Lindsey Chalmers struck out Mackenzie Babbitt struck out before Jessica Alexander single up the middle. Mustangs' centerfielder Amanda Sandoval threw out Cauley attempting to score to end the inning.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Chelsea Convissar recorded her second hit of the game, a double to left. Noellah Ramos successfully sacrificed Convissar to third with a bunt. Stephanie Heyward walked. Hailey Martin's single through the right side plated Convissar for a 1-0 Cal Poly lead. Crimson Kaiser popped out to wrap up the inning.

Shelby Jefferies relieved Lindsey Chalmers to begin the CSUN sixth. Babbitt worked out a leadoff walk. Chalmers came back in after pitching the first five innings. Alexander's sacrifice bunt advanced Babbitt to second. Savannah Horvath was intentionally walked to bring up Journey Rojas. Rojas grounded out to Chalmers in the circle which allowed both runners to move up a base. Megan Stevens was intentionally walked to load the bases. The second pitch to Haileigh Gonzalez looked like an extra base hit, but just went foul. With the count 1-2, Gonzalez grounded out to third for the final out.

Kaiser walked with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Sarah Wulff pinch-ran for Kaiser. Jefferies flew out to short. Makenna Young singled up the middle. Pinch-hitter Kirra Loucks struck out.

Jamie walked with one out in the top of the seventh. Pudi Hernandez entered as a pinch-runner. Martinez flew out to left. Babbitt singled to left center as Hernandez took third on the play. Babbitt advanced to second on the throw. Alexander struck out to end the game.

Convissar went 2-for-2 with a walk for the Mustangs (22-19, 6-6 Big West). Chalmers picked up her third win of the weekend, tossing a five-hitter. James was the hard luck loser, as she threw a five-hitter.

"I thought we did a good job of battling and making adjustments," said CSUN head coach Tairia Flowers. "We were putting the ball in play off of Chalmers. We were one hit away from getting it done. We will come back next week and try and do a better job."

The Matadors (18-32, 3-9 Big West) host UC Santa Barbara (17-27, 3-8 Big West). The series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader.
