COACHES CORNER
Matador head coach Jeff Stork shares his thoughts each week on the team, this week's matches and other topics.
On the upcoming Boise State Classic: "If you look at the teams this weekend, you're looking at three losses in 23 matches between Washington, Boise State and Portland so overall it's a challenging tournament. We're making some improvements but most of what happens with us is how we play on our side of the net. When we look back at last weekend, it was a good tournament for us and we will reference how we felt during and after the NAU match in particular. I think we have to tap into that type of emotion we had in that match to make sure we're mentally at our peak."
MATADOR QUICK SETS
Senior Erin Indermill matched her career-high with 28 assists in CSUN's 3-2 win over NAU. Indermill also had a season-high 12 digs along with her first kill since the 2016 season ... Saturday's victory at NAU gave CSUN its first two-match win streak of the season ... Senior Kristey Markle and freshman Lexi McLeod share the team lead with nine aces apiece. The Matadors, who led the Big West in team aces in 2017, currently rank seventh at 1.22 aces per set ... The Matadors are being out-blocked 93-59 through nine matches this season.Â
OWENS CAREER KILLS COUNTER
With 56 kills over three matches last weekend, senior Aeryn Owens vaulted four spots from ninth to fifth place in CSUN history with 1,247 career kills. Owens, who was 11th with 1,109 kills heading into the season, has now moved past Angela Hupp, Mahina Haina, Alexis Cormier, Cieana Stinson, Casey Hinger and Natalie Allen this season on the Matador career kills list. Owens now trails Nancy Nicholls (1989-92) and fourth place by just four kills.Â
