CSUN (6-5-1, 1-1 Big West) returns home Wednesday night when the Matadors host Sacramento State (5-6-2, 0-1-1 Big West). Kick is set for 7 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Giovanni Aguilar was issued a red card in the 39th minute forcing the Matadors to play a man down for the remaining 50+ minutes of the match. Max Glasser took immediate advantage as he dribbled in and took a shot that was saved by CSUN goalie David Preys.
- UC Davis (8-3-1, 2-0 Big West) outshot the Matadors 10-5 in the opening 45 minutes with Preys making six saves on the six Aggies' shots on goal.
- The Aggies threatened in the 58th minute. Adam Mickelson's shot was saved by Preys. The rebound came out to Whalen Shinn who put an attempt high towards the CSUN goal.
- Wumi Aladeitmi's header off a UC Davis corner three minutes later was blocked by the CSUN defense. This came shortly after a Heptner header that was saved by Preys.
- Glasser's effort in the 70th minute just went wide for the Aggies. Heptner's header a little over a minute later was high.
- A Heptner header off of a corner kick in the 73rd minute led to the PK opportunity. Aladeitmi was tripped in front of Preys in goal, resulting in the penalty. Heptner went right as Preys dove left for the go-ahead tally.
- CSUN took two shots in the second half. The best offensive chance for the Matadors came in the 83rd minute when CSUN was awarded a corner kick. Daniel Trejo sent the ball in towards the Aggies' net, but UC Davis sent the ball away. A Trejo shot was high in the 88th minute.
- Preys, a redshirt freshman, made a season-high nine saves. UC Davis outshot CSUN 20-7 for the match (10-0 on goal). A total of 29 fouls with a total of eight cards (7 yellow, 1 red) were booked in the match.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
- "It is hard to win when you play with 10 for over 50 minutes. It is even harder when you give up a penalty kick."
