HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams played to a scoreless first half with Sacramento State holding a 6-3 advantage in shots. Both teams recorded four corner kicks during the opening 45 minutes.
- Oscar Govea opened the scoring in the 65th minute. Arath Chavez's pass found Govea in front of the Matadors' goal where his shot towards goal went off a CSUN defender and in.
- Samuel Salter tied the match a little under four minutes later. Wolfgang Prentice sent the ball in from the right side to Daniel Trejo. Trejo headed the ball towards Salter in front where he put it away for his third goal of the season.
- Sacramento State (6-6-2, 1-1-1 Big West) posted the next two shots, one in the 71st and one again in the 78th. CSUN recorded a pair of corner kicks with under five minutes to play, but that would be the only Matador chances to break the tie.
- The game-winning goal came on the only offensive chance of overtime. Chavez sent Kikanovic on a run. CSUN goalie David Preys came out to challenge Kikanovic. The Hornets' forward was able to beat Preys and score his fourth of the year for the victory.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
- "After going down, we were able to tie it up. We got a little off-balance at the end of the game and they were able to score. Am I disappointed, no, the league is tight. You have to play better to do well."
