STANFORD, Calif.---CSUN Men's Soccer suffered a 4-0 loss to top-ranked Stanford on Monday afternoon at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The Matadors would keep pace with the Cardinal in the shot department with each side posting 13 shots apiece, however, Stanford scored three first-half goals en route to the shutout victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors knew they would be in for a challenge in facing No. 1 Stanford on the road on Monday. In the early going, CSUN withstood an early attack from the Cardinal, which included a shot from Trevor Islam that was denied by Dorian Drucks. However, a set piece would soon lead to the Cardinal finding the back of the net. Off a corner kick, Drucks attempted secure possession for CSUN but could not, leading to Jayden Fitzgerald Boes scoring the game's first goal. In the ensuing minutes, CSUN had shots reach frame from Kayvon Monfared and Daniel Garcia, but goalkeeper Rowan Schnebly turned away each chance.

Stanford took advantage of a CSUN miscue in the 19th minute, as the Matadors defense failed to clear the ball out of their backfield. Fitzgerald Boes again cleaned up the play, scoring his second goal of the day from near the top of the box. The Cardinal later went ahead 3-0 on a 36th minute strike from Joshua Partal, set up by Logan Tsopanoglou.

After Stanford held a 10-8 edge in shots in the first half, the Matadors would outshoot the Cardinal in the second period at 5-3 but could not come away with a breakthrough on the offensive end. In contrast, Stanford made the most of its chances, scoring again in the 61st minute on Fitzgerald Boes' third goal of the match. Jack Cameron was denied at the net by goalkeeper Victor Jordan later in the half while Damien Baltierra also put the Matadors' last shot on frame in the 82nd minute.

CSUN slips to 2-2-1 on the season while Stanford remains unbeaten at 6-0-0.
Monfared led the Matadors with three shots with one on goal.
Drucks finished with one save in 72 minutes of action.
Bryan Castaneda entered the game late in the contest at goalkeeper and registered 18 minutes.
Garcia posted a team-high 78 minutes on the field.
Each side finished with three corner kicks each.
A total of 39 fouls were called and five combined yellow cards were issued.
