HOW IT HAPPENED
- Back-to-back shots from Julio Rubio and Omar Grey in the 17th and 18th minutes were the first scoring chances for the Matadors. UCR goalie Edwyn Gutierrez made saves on both for the Highlanders.
- The third shot of the half for CSUN came in the 40th minute when Daniel Trejo's effort when high and to the left. UC Riverside took a 1-0 lead with just over two minutes to play in the first half when Caio Guazzelli scored off an Adrian Medina assist.
- Khalid Hunter posted the first attempt of the second half for the Matadors which went left in the 51st minute. Trejo's second attempt of the night two minutes later was saved by Gutierrez.
- UCR (6-8-2, 1-3-1 Big West) recorded the next two offensive threats with attempts in the 55th. The first by Roberto Garcia-Vargas was turned away by David Preys. The rebound came back out where Daniel Aguirre was off target.
- Trejo tied the match at the 63:34 mark with his eighth goal of the season, his first since the UCLA match on Sept. 15. Brendan Hildreth earned the assist on the play.
- Gutierrez stopped a Rubio shot from the bottom left in the 67th minute. Alan Perez's ball went left four minutes later. Issa Badawiya's shot for UC Riverside at 73:04 was knocked away and resulted in a Highlanders' corner. The Matadors' defense pushed away from the threat.
- Preys made a save of an Aguirre shot with just under five to play. The ball went out over the end line, resulting in a UC Riverside corner kick. Kameron Bolden ended up with the ball off the set-piece. His effort went out left and resulted in a CSUN goal kick.
- Hildreth's shot from distance with 2:43 to play was put out the top.
- In the first overtime, the Matadors were awarded two consecutive corner kicks in the 95th minute. Each set-piece resulted in a shot attempt, but both were off-target. A Bolden shot that came off a free kick would go wide in the 98th minute. With 1:58 to go, Badawyia failed to connect and went out right for UCR.
- CSUN posted the lone corner kick of the second overtime as each team was called for offsides. Maximillian Yanakaev had the only Matadors' shot of the final 10 minutes, a blast with just over two to play that went out above the UC Riverside net.
