FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball (3-11) wraps up the 2019 calendar year with a Tuesday matinee with Morgan State. Tip-off starts at noon and Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister are on the call at 11:50 a.m. on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health through BigWest.TV. The game is the first of a CSUN Basketball doubleheader as the women's team will also host Hope International at 2 p.m. One ticket is good for both Matador games.
CSUN is looking to get back on the winning track after falling at Boise State 103-72 on Saturday. Despite the lopsided final score, the Matadors led with 7:28 to play in the first half before the Broncos went on a 16-2 run. Boise State opened up the second half strong as well with a 14-5 spurt to open up a 25-point lead. CSUN could not recover down the stretch as hot Bronco shooting coupled with foul trouble across the Matadors' front line proved too much to overcome.
Despite playing with four fouls for nearly the entire second half, Lamine Diane finished with 28 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in 33 minutes. Terrell Gomez struggled with his shot going 4-of-18 but he finished with 10 points while Lance Coleman II chipped in with nine points off the bench.
With his 10 points on Saturday, Gomez surpassed the Matadors' all-time Division II leader in scoring, Jim Malkin (1959-62), for sole possession of eighth place on the CSUN career scoring list. Standing at 1,302 points, Gomez would pass Matador Hall of Famer Andre Chevalier (1990-94) for seventh place with 10 more points. Just in his third season with the team, Gomez is only one of two players on the career Top 10 list to play in just three seasons with the Matadors (Malkin). Gomez will also move into 10th place in career minutes, currently occupied by Rob Haynes (2005-09), with 34 more minutes on the floor.
On the national leaderboard, Gomez is second in the nation with 49 3-point field goals made and sixth with 299 total points. He is also 10th in the nation in field goals made (100), 15th in free throw percentage (92.6) and 16th in points per game (21.4). His backcourt mate Darius Brown II is 14th in the country in assists to turnover ratio (3.0) while Elijah Harkless is 15th in steals (31).
In the Big West, Gomez is still the leader in several categories including points per game, field goals made, 3-point field goals made, free throw percentage and minutes per game (37.1). Harkless is populating a number of Big West Top 10 lists in his second season as he is first in the league in steals per game third in defensive rebounds per game (5.2), sixth in rebounds per game (6.4) and eighth in free throws made (37). Brown II remains steady in second place in assists per game (4.6) and assists to turnover ratio. The Matadors are second in the Big West Conference in 3-point field goals made per game (7.9) and third in points per game (71.0), 3-point percentage (35.2) and turnovers per game (13.4).
CSUN will play Morgan State for the seventh-straight season at The Matadome on Tuesday. The Matadors are undefeated in six all-time meetings as they held off the Bears for a 94-86 win last December. Gomez tallied a game-high 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting while Diane had 16 points and 15 rebounds. Five total Matadors scored in double figures in the win. CSUN has gone 10-1 against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference teams in school history.
