CSUN Sweeps On Day 1 Of Early Bird Classic

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Megan Stevens went 5-for-5 with four doubles and two walks as CSUN swept Army West Point to begin the Early Bird Classic.
GAME 1
The Matadors defeated the Black Knights 9-4 to begin the tournament.
CSUN defeated the Black Knights 4-3 to wrap up the day.

GAME 1
The Matadors defeated the Black Knights 9-4 to begin the tournament.
- CSUN opened the scoring the bottom of the first on a Jessica Alexander RBI single that plated Megan Stevens.
- Ashley Yoo doubled with one out in the Army West Point fifth. Yoo advanced to third on a James wild pitch with the count 1-1 on Carrie Reilly. Reilly tied the game with an opposite field bloop single to left. Grace Mattimore struck out for the third time in the game before Madi Gilmore walked. Bianca Gonzalez walked to load the bases to chase CSUN starter Jillian James.
- Kenedee Jamerson came on in relief to face Ally Snelling. Snelling singled up the middle to drive in two runs. Snelling and Gonzalez both advanced a base on a CSUN throwing error. The runners again advanced a base on a passed ball, allowing Gonzalez to score the fourth run of the game. Jamerson would get Taylor Drayton to ground out back to her to end the inning.
- Aaliyah Swan singled to open the bottom of the fifth. Halieigh Gonzalez beat out a bunt single to advance Swan to second. Mattimore, the Black Knights' first baseman attempted to throw out Swan at second. The throw went all the way down the left field line to allow both runners to score and create a 4-3 game.
- After going down 0-2 in the count to Army reliever Madi Bryant, Megan Stevens worked the count to 3-2 and smacked her second home run of the season to tie the game.
- Mackenzie Babbitt singled. Babbitt stole second and stole third. Alexander walked to bring up Kiarra Crockett-Pope. Crockett-Pope singled up the middle to drive in Babbitt. Alexander advanced to second as Maddie Johnson entered to pinch-run for Crockett-Pope as Jamerson came to bat.
- Jamerson successfully sacrifice the runners up a base. Journey Rojas singled to left to score Alexander. Gator Rascon grounded out to second which allowed Johnson to score sixth and final run of the inning for the Matadors.
- Gonzalez and Stevens recorded consecutive doubles to begin the CSUN sixth with Stevens driving Gonzalez. With one out, Alexander drove in Stevens with a double for the final run of the game.
- Stevens went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Alexander was 2-for-3 while Rojas was 2-for-4.
- Yoo was 2-for-4 for the Black Knights while Snelling went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
CSUN defeated the Black Knights 4-3 to wrap up the day.
- Army West Point stranded runners at second and third in the top of the first. Stevens led off the CSUN first with a double. She moved to third on a Babbitt sac bunt and scored on an Alexander sac fly to give the Matadors the lead.
- The Black Knights used two hits and a hit by pitch to load the bases with no outs in the top of the third. Reilly tied the game with a single as the bases remained loaded. Freshman Elise Madison relieved Jamerson to go up against Mattimore.
- Madison force Mattimore to pop out to short for the first out. Gilmore popped out to third for out number two. Snelling grounded out to third to conclude the frame.
- Army West Point loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Madison again pitched out of trouble. Getting a 6-2 fielder's choice to earn the second out and a strike out to wrap up the inning.
- Swan worked out a two-out walk in the bottom of the fifth and advanced to third on a Gonzalez single. Stevens's fourth double of the day drove in both Swan and Gonzalez to give CSUN a 3-1 lead.
- Alexander opened the sixth with a double. She moved to third when Jaymi Steward flew out to right. Jamerson grounded out to short which allowed Alexander to score.
- Drayton began the top of the seventh with a single. With one out Mattimore walked. Gilmore struck out looking. With the count 1-1 on Snelling, a Madison wild pitch allowed both runners to move up a base. Snelling walked to load the bases. Jolie Duong singled to left to drive in two runs.
- Stevens relieved Madison and faced Maddie Kim. Kim reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases once again. Gonzalez grounded out for the final out of the game.

- "I was happy with our fight. We answered back when Army would score. Our pitchers picked each other up. I'd like us to make adjustments and stay locked in for 14 innings."
