BANDON, Ore. - The CSUN Men's Golf team carded a final round 315 to finish 14th at the conclusion of the Bandon Dunes Championship Tuesday at Bandon Dunes at Bandon Dunes Course.
After opening with a team round of 309 on Sunday, the Matadors put together an impressive 292 in Monday's second round. Tuesday's 315 dropped CSUN one spot on the team leaderboard with a total of 916.Â
Freshman Paul-Louis Gachet was the only to finish in the top half of the 107-player field as he tied for 24th at seven-over 223. Gachet, who began the day tied for 19th, was three-over after a double bogey seven on his eighth hole. A series of three bogeys over four holes on the back nine dropped him to seven-over before he rallied for birdies on his final two holes to get back to five-over on the day and seven-over for the tournament.
Fellow freshman Tomas Helgo was in good shape after an opening round 73 but consecutive rounds of 80 dropped him to 17-over 233 which was good for a tie for 71st place. Senior Tomas Skajem opened with rounds of 76-74 before a final round 85 dropped him into a tie for 76th at 19-over 235.
Also for the Matadors, Ryan Hoffenberg finished with a round of 83 which dropped him from 75th into a tie for 87th at 21-over 237 and Luis Calderon posted a final round 75, the low of any Matador on Tuesday, to finish tied for 90th at 22-over 238.
Utah (876) passed 36-hole leaders Ohio State to win the team title while the Ute's Blake Tomlinson took individual medalist honors at four-under 212.
COACH JIM BRACKEN SAID
"The conditions were tough again today but the bottom line is we just didn't get it done. We've got the Cal Poly Match Play in a couple weeks so we'll have some fun and work on our frame of mind and have a good event."Â
The Matadors will be back in action at the Cal Poly Match Play Championship on Mar. 25-26 at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
