CSUN Opens With Split At CSUN/LMU Tournament

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN split on day one of the CSUN/Loyola Marymount Tournament Friday at Matador Diamond.

GAME 1
- CSUN evoked the mercy rule as the Matadors defeated Dartmouth 11-2 in the opener.
- After turning back threats from the Big Green in the first two innings, CSUN loaded the bases in the bottom of the second. With one out, sophomore Jaymi Steward hit her first career grand slam to make it 4-0 in favor of the Matadors.
- Kira Cauley and Haileigh Gonzalez followed with back-to-back hits. Megan Stevens followed with a single through the left side to drive in Cauley. Jessica Alexander walked to load the bases once again.
- With two outs, Aaliyah Swan walked to plate the sixth run. Kiarra Crockett-Pope walked to increase the advantage to 7-0.
- A pair of CSUN errors in the top of the third resulted in two Dartmouth runs. In the bottom of the third, Steward tripled and scored on a wild pitch as the Matadors took a six-run lead.
- Stevens doubled in Cauley as the score increased to 9-2. Mackenzie Babbitt put the Matadors up by eight when she singled in Stevens.
- Steward drove in her fifth run of the game with a single in the bottom of the fourth that scored Rascon.
- Steward was a double short of the cycle as she was 3-for-3 with a single, triple, and home run. Gonzalez, Stevens, Babbitt, and Rascon each posted two hits.
- Jillian James struck out five, walked one, in picking up her seventh victory of the season.
GAME 2
- No. 2 Oklahoma defeated CSUN 11-0 to wrap up the day.
- The Sooners broke the seal in the top of the second. OU took advantage of an error to score an unearned run.
- Three extra base hits from the Sooners in the top of the third resulted in three runs and 4-0 OU lead.
- Sydney Romero led off the Oklahoma fifth with her ninth home run of the season. The Sooners scored six more times to push OU past the mercy rule threshold.
- Romero who was 3-for-4 in game one of the day against Darmouth, went 2-for-3 with two runs scored against the Matadors. Fale Aviu was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
- OU pitchers Shannon Sadie and Mariah Lopez combined on a three-hitter for the Sooners. Salie struck out eight in four innings.

- "I think we played well in the first game. We came out aggressive and made things happen. Oklahoma is a very good team and I think they caught us on our heels, and we played with some uncertainty. Hopefully, we learned from this game and we will come out better."
