No. 21 CSUN falls to No. 5 Hawai'i, 15-2 in Honolulu

HONOLULU-- No. 21 CSUN Water Polo (13-14, 0-2 BWC) fell in a Big West Conference matchup Saturday night versus No. 5 Hawai'i 15-2 at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

CSUN will travel back to Northridge next week for another Big West bout. The Matadors will take on UC Irvine (13-7, 0-1 BWC) Saturday, Mar 30 at 12 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a match that saw the Rainbow Wahine tally 15 goals by seven different players, CSUN kept the match close in the first quarter before the fifth ranked Hawai'i squad pulled away from the Matadors to get the victory.
- In the first quarter Hawai'i jumped out to a lead in the early going off the back of Carmen Baringo who scored in the game's first 30 seconds. It would be the first of her three goals. Femke Aan (who finished with three goals herself) notched a goal of her own to make it 2-0 in favor of the Rainbow Wahine.
- CSUN cut the lead in half thanks to Madasonne Butler who notched her 32nd goal on the campaign. The lead would stay at 2-1 after a quarter.
- In the second quarter CSUN would be held scoreless while Hawai'i increased their 2-1 lead by five goals. Maxine Schapp netted two of her game leading five goals on the contest in the second quarter.
- In the third period CSUN would get on the scoreboard again with a goal by Lindsey Garcia (13th goal this season) but Hawai'i would come back with six more goals to increase their lead to 13-2 with a quarter left to play.
- In the fourth and final period the Matadors were held scoreless while Hawai'i added goals from Baringo and Alba Bonamusa Boix.
