CSUN Opens Big West Softball Play At UC Davis

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team opens Big West play this weekend at UC Davis.

The three-game set is scheduled to begin on Saturday Mar. 30 with a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. The single game of the series is scheduled for Sunday Mar. 31 at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed on BigWest.tv.

UC Davis concluded the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 2-1 victory over California Wednesday afternoon to improve to 25-5 overall. The best non-conference record among the eight Big West softball programs.

Brooke Yanez, was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Pitcher of the Week Mar. 19 after tossing UCD's first Division I perfect game. Yanez is 16-1 with a 1.09 ERA. She has struck out 147 in 103 innings. Yanez is sixth in Division I in victories and is 10th in D-1 in shutouts.

Megan Bradbury paces the offense as she is hitting .345 and leads the team in home runs (7), and RBI (29). This weekend's series will mark the 52nd, 53rd, and 54th times that CSUN and UC Davis will be playing softball. The Matadors lead the all-time series 35-16.

The Matadors (16-17) went 3-3 last week to wrap up non-conference play. CSUN swept Saint Mary's by a combined score of 22-2. The Matadors dropped decisions to Dartmouth (10-9), Fresno State (2-0), and No. 1 UCLA (14-2) a week ago. Kira Cauley hit .421 on the week while Jillian James was 2-1 with a 0.90 ERA in the circle.

Megan Stevens leads Division I in doubles with 16 this week. Her 16 doubles are tied for the second most by a CSUN player at the Division I level.

Stevens is also second in D-1 in doubles per game (0.48). She is fifth in total bases (91), seventh in hits (47), ninth in batting average (.480), ninth in RBI (40), 10th in slugging percentage (.929), 22nd in RBI per game (1.21), 23rd in on-base percentage (.544), and 96th in home runs per game (0.24).
