CSUN Hosts Hawai'i This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— CSUN hosts Hawai'i in the final home softball series this weekend. Friday's single game begins at 3 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader getting underway at 1 p.m.

Friday's play will serve as the Pediatric Game on the CSUN campus. In addition to the Senior Day ceremonies on Saturday, fans will be able to enter to win a JBL Portable Speaker during game one of the doubleheader.

All of the action will be streamed by the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health with Brandon Marcus on the call.Â

Hawai'i begins this week second in the Big West with a 11-4 record. UH is 30-13 overall. The Rainbow Wahine's Nicole Lopez (field) and Brittany Hitchcock (pitcher) earned Player of the Week honors Apr. 29.

Lopez hit .556, posted a .636 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage as Hawai'i swept UC Riverside last weekend. Lopez scored a team-high four runs to go along with her team-best five hits. She also drove in a pair of runs, accounting for six of UH's 15 runs scored against the Highlanders.

Hitchcock earned the win in all three games this past weekend against UC Riverside – two as a starter and one as a reliever. Hitchcock recorded a 0.45 ERA in 15.2 innings of work, striking out seven and walking just one.

This weekend's series will mark the 34th, 35th, and 36th times that CSUN and UH will be playing softball. The series is tied 16-16-1.

The Matadors improved to 24-24 on the year, 8-7 in Big West play last weekend when CSUN swept UC Santa Barbara. The Matadors defeated the Gauchos 10-2, 5-2, and 6-3 during the series.

Megan Stevens broke the CSUN school for most doubles in a season when she recorded her 18th against UC Santa Barbara in the first game of the Apr. 27 doubleheader. The old mark of 17 was set by Shannon Jones in 1994. Stevens would add two more on the weekend and enters this week's play with 20.

With six games remaining in the regular season, Stevens has a chance to become the first Matador player to win the Big West Triple Crown since 1998. Stevens currently leads the league in batting (.458) and RBI (51). She is two away from the conference lead in home runs (12). Chelo Lopez won the Big West Triple Crown 20 seasons ago with a .370 batting average, 11 home runs, and 45 runs batted in. Â

In addition to leading the Big West in doubles, hitting and RBI, Stevens paces the conference total bases (120), hits (60), walks (30), slugging percentage (.916) and on-base percentage (.563). Â

Nationally, Stevens is third in doubles, sixth in batting, sixth in doubles per game, seventh in on-base percentage, seventh in slugging percentage, 19th in total bases, 23rd in RBI, 35th in RBI per game (1.06), 56th in hits, 77th in walks (0.63), and 96th in home runs per game (0.25).
