Matadors Defeat CSU Bakersfield Twice in Dual Match Action

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSUN Women's Golf team opened the 2019-20 season by defeating CSU Bakersfield in back-to-back dual matches Sunday and Monday.
The two teams met Sunday at Moorpark Country Club with the Matadors coming out on top 315 to 345. Sophomore Kiran Sangha was CSUN's low scorer with a (+4) 76 followed by Ashley Phelps who carded a (+6) 78. Also for the Matadors, senior Brianna Steger shot 80 while newcomers Grace Bettis finished with a round of 80 and Sengum Gankhuyag posted an 84. Julia Johansson and Araceli Equivel also played individually for the Matadors with Johansson posting a (+5) 77 and Esquivel finishing at 85.
In Monday's rematch at Bakersfield Country Club, the Matadors earned a 314 to 332 victory on the Par 73 course. For the second straight day, Sangha was CSUN's low scorer, firing a two-under 71. Steger finished at (+3) 76 followed by Gankhuyag (83), Bettis (84) and Phelps (86).
Johansson (82) and Esquivel (83) again competed for the Matadors as individuals.
CSUNÂ plays its first tournament of the season beginning Sepr. 28 as the Matadors travel to Palm Desert to compete at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate.
