UCSB's Fourth Quarter Run Sends Gauchos Past CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—UC Santa Barbara defeated CSUN 65-55 in Big West women's basketball action Saturday night in the Matadome.

- The Gauchos led 17-16 after the first quarter. UC Santa Barbara used a 13-2 second quarter run to break the game open. The scoring outburst resulted in the Gauchos' largest lead of the first half, 30-20, with 2:45 to play in the half. UCSB would hold the Matadors to eight points in the second quarter and would lead by nine, 33-24, at halftime.
- The Matadors climbed back into the game by holding UCSB off the scoreboard for the first 5:00 of the third quarter. CSUN scored six points during the span to cut the Gauchos' lead to 33-30. The Matadors further reduced the Gauchos' advantage, trailing by only two late in the quarter. CSUN missed two chances to either tie the game or take the lead in the final minute of the third including a failed De'Jionae Calloway layup at the buzzer. UCSB led 42-40 heading into fourth.
- CSUN scored the first point of the final stanza when Hayley Tanabe made 1-of-2 free throws 1:05 into the quarter. The Gauchos' Tai Sahar hit back-to-back three-pointers to jump start a 13-2 run that put the game away for UC Santa Barbara. The closest CSUN would get down the stretch would be nine.
- Sahar score 18 points. Ila Lane charted a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds. Danae Miller scored 14. Jordyn Jackson was the lone CSUN player in double-figures with 16 points.
- UC Santa Barbara shot 38.6% (22-57) from the floor. The Matadors were 34.9% (22-63) from the field. UCSB outrebounded CSUN 42-36. CSUN committed 15 turnovers which resulted in 14 UCSB points. The Gauchos made 16 turnovers which ended up begin 12 Matador points. Both teams recorded seven steals while UCSB held a 13-9 advantage in assists.

- "We were much better coming out of halftime and we made a run to get back into it. But there were times that we need to make something happen and it just didn't go. Credit to UCSB, they made some big shots down the stretch that they weren't making in the first half and resulted in the score that it did."

- The teams play a rare immediate rematch Thursday night when CSUN (9-15, 4-6 Big West) travels to UC Santa Barbara (10-14, 4-7 Big West). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
