CSUN Hosts Long Beach State Thursday Before Traveling To Cal Poly On Saturday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.-- CSUN (10-16, 5-7 Big West) enters the next-to-last week of the 2019-20 regular season this week when the Matadors host Long Beach State before traveling to Cal Poly.

CSUN and The Beach will face off on Thursday at 7 p.m. David Gascon has the call beginning with the pregame show at 6:50 p.m. on BigWest.tv.
Thursday will feature a Fan Fest that will be on the West Side of The Matadome. The Fan Fest begins at 5:30 p.m. and will have free food and music.

Long Beach State is 11-14, 6-6 in Big West play after losing 71-60 to UC Irvine in Long Beach last Thursday night. Long Beach State is tied for fourth in the Big West with Cal State Fullerton to begin this week. Shanaijah Davison (13.5) and Justina King (13.4) are 11th and 12th respectively in the Big West in scoring. Davision is ninth in the league in field goals (123). The Beach defeated CSUN 60-52 in Long Beach on Jan. 18. Long Beach State leads the all-time series 43-20.

The Matadors head to San Luis Obispo on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start. The game will also be streamed on BigWest.tv. All links will be available on GoMatadors.com. Cal Poly begins the week with a 7-17 overall record, 4-9 in the Big West. The Mustangs sit one game out of the final Big West Tournament playoff spot as UC Riverside holds the eighth and final spot with a 4-8 league record. Cal Poly has two of the top five scorers in the Big West in Sierra Campisano (3rd, 16.1) and Abbey Ellis (4th, 15.1). Campisano is third in the league in rebounding (8.4), third in free throw percentage (78.6) and eighth in blocks (17).

With four games remaining in the regular season, the Matadors (5-7) sit in seventh-place. However, the Matadors only one game back in the loss column for third-place in the league standings. The top two teams in the league, currently UC Davis (10-3), and Hawai'i (8-4) will get a double-bye in the Big West Tournament. Teams three and four will receive a first-round bye. UC Santa Barbara is currently third at 7-6 with Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State are tied for fourth at 6-6. Teams 5-8 (currently, CSF/LBSU, UC Irvine CSUN, and UC Riverside) would begin the tournament Mar. 10 at Long Beach State with the fifth-seed playing No. 8 while the sixth-seed would play No. 7. Round two of the tournament is set for Mar. 11 at Long Beach State. The semis and finals are Mar. 13-14 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The Matadors went 1-1 last week. CSUN nearly came back from a 19-point third-quarter deficit at UC Santa Barbara, but the Matadors dropped a 65-60 decision to the Gauchos last Thursday night. CSUN defeated Cal State Fullerton for the 19th consecutive time last Saturday night when the Matadors handed the Titans a 57-50 loss. Deja Williams and De'Jionae Calloway both averaged 15 points per game last week. Calloway recorded her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the year against UCSB and Cal State Fullerton and averaged 12.5 rebounds per game during the week.
