Cal State Fullerton Defeats CSUN 67-52 In First Round Of BWC Tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Cal State Fullerton, the sixth seed, defeated CSUN, the seventh seed, 67-52 in the first round of the Big West Women's Basketball Tournament Tuesday night in the Walter Pyramid.

- The Matadors allowed one Cal State Fullerton field goal in the first 5:07 of the first quarter as CSUN jumped out to a 10-4 lead. The Titans went over four minutes without a point. Cal State Fullerton battled back to cut it to 18-15 as the first quarter came to a close.
- The Titans opened the second on a 7-0 run to take their first lead, 22-20, when Carolyn Gill went coast-to-coast for a layup two minutes in. The run would expand to 11-4 as the second quarter media timeout came at 4:46 with the Titans leading 26-24. CSUN did not record a field goal over the final 6:07 of the first half as the Titans led 29-26 at halftime.
- Cal State Fullerton used a 13-1 run to begin the third quarter to take control of the game. The Titans limited the Matadors to 3-of-11 shooting as the Matadors fell behind 49-37 with 30 minutes gone.
- Trailing by 21, CSUN reduced the Cal State Fullerton lead to 60-46 with a 7-0 spurt midway through the fourth quarter, resulting in a Titans' timeout. Cal State Fullerton would not let it get any closer as the Titans would go on to victory.
- The Titans' victory broke a 19-game losing streak to the Matadors dating back to 2011. Cal State Fullerton limited CSUN to 33.3% (18-of-55) shooting for the game. In comparison, the Titans shot 43.8% (28-of-64) from the floor. Cal State Fullerton scored 13 points off of 13 CSUN turnovers and made eight steals.
- Cal State Fullerton Taylor Turney scored 14 of her game-high 27 points in the first half. Big West MVP Raina Perez posted 14 for the Titans. Amiee Book scored 12 while Carolyn Gill added 10 for Cal State Fullerton. Meghan Henderson posted a team-high 15, De'Jionae Calloway scored 10 while Lauren Shymkewicz tallied 10 for CSUN (12-19).
