NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN Athletics is mourning the loss of men's track and field student-athlete Ezekial Bishop. Bishop enrolled at CSUN for the Spring 2020 semester and joined the Matador men's track and field program from nearby Oaks Christian High School.
The CSUN University community, CSUN Athletics and the Matador track and field programs extend our deepest sympathy to Ezekial's family, friends and teammates.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of Ezekial's passing," Director of Athletics Mike Izzi said. "Any loss of life is tragic and to lose someone so young is absolutely heartbreaking. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ezekial's family at this extremely difficult time."
A native of Westlake Village, Calif., Bishop entered three events during the past indoor season for the Matadors. He posted season-bests in both the 400m and the long jump at the Feb. 21 NAU Tune-Up where he was 10th in the long jump with a leap of 21-8 1/4 and finished 16th in the 400m in a time of :51.71. Bishop placed 24th in the long jump (18-4 1/4) at the MPSF Championships.
"We will all mourn the loss of Zeek," said CSUN head track and field coach Justin Johnson. "Personally, I am grateful for the opportunity I had to know him, and professionally I will miss him dearly, as he was an honor to coach.
"Zeek had an incredibly bright personality and everyone loved him. He was a dedicated teammate, friend and a leader whose smile and laugh we will miss. I am still shocked and broken-hearted for his family, our team and his friends ... and want them all to know that Zeek was a great athlete, but more importantly a great young man, and he will always be a Matador."
