NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN Men's Soccer team hosts a pair of Big West Conference matches this week. The action gets underway Wednesday night when the Matadors welcome Sacramento State to the pitch. Coverage on ESPN+ with Ghizal Hasan and GoMatadors.com/radio with Alex Naveja begins at 7 p.m.

Sacramento State begins the week tied for second with Cal Poly in the Big West standings as the Hornets went 1-0-1 to begin league play. Sacramento State is 3-6-2 overall. Tyler Moss is tied for fourth in the league in assists with four. Michael Gonzalez and Oscar Govea are tied for ninth in the Big West in shots (16). Gonzalez leads the team in goals (3) and points (7).

In goal, Ryan Curtis has started all 11 matches for the Hornets. He leads the conference in saves with 46. Curtis is third in saves per game (4.18), fourth in save percentage (.754), and seventh in goals-against average (1.42). This is the 25th all-time meeting between CSUN and Cal Poly with the Matadors leading the series 14-9-1. The Hornets defeated CSUN 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 16, 2019, in the last match between the two clubs.Â

CSUN hosts UC San Diego Saturday night. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with audio coverage on GoMatadors.com/radio featuring Naveja. Playing a Division I schedule for the first time; UC San Diego is 4-5 overall after going 1-1 during the opening week of Big West play.Â

Nick Cirrito is tied with two others for third in the conference in goals with five. He is averaging one shot on goal per game which is the fourth highest in the Big West. Dominic Peters is the league leader in goals-against average (0.80). Peters is second in saves (45) and is tied with two others for third in shutouts (2).Â

This is the third time that the Matadors and the Tritons are playing men's soccer with CSUN leading the all-time series 2-0. The Matadors defeated UCSD 3-1 on Nov. 7, 1998, in the last meeting between the clubs. Â

The Matadors went 0-2 to begin Big West play last week to fall to 1-10 overall. CSUN dropped a 4-3 decision to CSU Bakersfield on Sept. 29. Michael Arrington, Giovanni Aguilar, and Arturo Reveles scored goals for CSUN. The Matadors lost 1-0 Sunday night at Cal Poly.Â

Freshman Jamar Ricketts took a Matador-high seven shots against CSUB and is now seventh in the Big West in the category with 20. He is 10th in the conference in shots per game (1.82). Aguilar is tied for 10th in the league in goals scored (3) with three other players.

David Preys is ninth in the Big West in goals-against average (2.08), tied for ninth with one other in saves per game (2.44). The redshirt junior is 10th in the conference in saves (22) and save percentage (.564).Â
