NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN's Tess Amundsen was named Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 29. A redshirt junior, this is Amundsen's first Big West honor.
A Fresno native, Amundsen had a happy homecoming on Nov. 23 against Fresno State. The 6-0 forward scored 31 points in leading CSUN past the Bulldogs 81-75. Amundsen went 10-of-17 from the field, 4-of-7 from three-point range, and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. She grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and added an assist and a steal. Her 31 points were the most by a CSUN player since Deja Williams posted 32 at Hawai'i on Mar. 7, 2020.
Amundsen scored seven points and led the Matadors in rebounds (5) and assists (3) in the 83-42 loss to No. 14/16 Texas Nov. 27. She added two steals. Amundsen averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game against Fresno State and Texas.
"There is no one more deserving of this honor than Tess," said CSUN interim head coach Carlene Mitchell. "With her high basketball IQ and competitive spirit, Tess has served as extension of a coach on the court."
Amundsen is the first Matador player to be named Player of the Week since Jan. 13, 2020 when De'Jionae Calloway earned the award. CSUN (2-3) returns to the Matadome Wednesday night when the Matadors host Loyola Marymount (2-3). The tip is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ with David Gascon on the call.
