NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---After a 20-month absence due to COVID-19, CSUN returns to the women's basketball court Tuesday night when the Matadors travel to the University of Arizona.
Tip-off is 4 p.m. Pacific/5 p.m. Mountain. The game will be produced via the Arizona Live Stream on Pac12.com with all links on GoMatadors.com.
The 2021 Division I national runner-up, Arizona (21-6) lost 54-53 to Stanford in the championship game last April. The Wildcats are 15th in the WBCA Preseason Top 25 poll and No. 22 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll. Cate Reese is the top returning scorer for the Wildcats as she averaged 10.9 rebounds per game a year ago. She averaged 5.1 rebounds per game in 2020-21.
Tuesday marks the seventh meeting between CSUN and Arizona with the Wildcats leading the all-time series 4-2. The Matadors defeated Arizona 66-63 in the third-place game of the 2017 CSUN Warner Center Marriott Thanksgiving Basketball Classic in the last game between the two clubs.
Tuesday will mark the 32nd time since the Matadors moved to the Division I level in 1990 that CSUN faces a nationally ranked opponent.
With 12 players making their first appearance in a Matador uniform, CSUN is a different team that last saw action on Mar. 10, 2020, when the Matadors fell 71-58 to Cal State Fullerton in the quarterfinals of the Big West Tournament. The top returning player for CSUN is graduate student Meghann Henderson.
The 5-10 guard is climbing the CSUN career charts. She played in 97 career games and 2679 minutes, both of which stand just outside of the top-10 in school history. Henderson is 83-of-294 from three-point range in her career. Both are 11th in school history. She is already 10th in school history with 273 career assists. Henderson has an outside chance of reaching the CSUN 1,000 career-point club as she enters this season with 611 career points.
