Matadors Drop a Pair of Duals to Seventh-Ranked LMU

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN Beach Volleyball team dropped a pair of duals to seventh-ranked Loyola Marymount Thursday afternoon at the Matador Beach Volleyball Complex.
LMU 5, CSUN 0
The first dual began with the Lions claiming the exhibition match as Jacinda Ramirez and Cassie Chinn defeated CSUN's True McCullough and Emily Sparks, 21-6, 21-4. Megan Rice and Iya Lindahl then picked up LMU's first point after topping Lexi McLeod and Seyvion Waggoner by the score of 21-16, 21-16. The Lions made it 2-0 in the first flight when Darby Dunn and Sydnie Herrmann swept Lauren McMurray and Kailey Klein, 21-14, 21-18.
In the second flight of the opening dual, Madi Firnett and Emma Doud clinched the team win for the Lions, topping Victoria Rogers and Abbey Sweeting in the No. 5 pair, 21-12, 21-10. Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan nearly went the distance in the No. 3 pair before falling the LMU's Savannah Slattery and Jessie Prichard, 21-17, 21-18. The Lions capped the dual sweep when the No. 1 pair of Reka Orsi Toth and Selina Marolf swept CSUN's Meagan Carter and Lauren Eknoian, 21-12, 21-13.

The afternoon dual went to the visitors by the same 5-0 count as Dunn and Herrmann swept McMurray and Klein by the count of 21-8, 21-13 in the No. 4 pair. Michaela Rezentes and Georgia Fusco then defeated Rogers and Sweeting, 21-14, 21-14 in the exhibition contest before Rice and Lindahl topped Carter and Eknoian in the No, 2 match, 21-12, 21-18.Â
The Lions opened the second flight by clinching the dual win when Slattery and Prichard swept Honeycutt and Maughan in the No. 3 pair, 21-17, 21-9. LMU then swept the final two matches, as Firnett and Doud topped McCullough and Sparks in the No, 5 pair, 21-17, 21-11 and Orsi Toth and Marolf swept McLeod and Waggoner by the score of 21-9, 21-19 in the NO. 1 contest.

"I'm really proud of the fight my team showed today. We knew the level of competition we saw today was going to be really good and we battled. We learned a lot from today and we know what we need to work on moving forward and we'll have that much of a better showing next time we face them."Â
