CSUN Falls To Long Beach State In Series Opener
4/2/2021 4:10:00 PM | Softball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Long Beach State pitchers Shannon Haddad and Morgan Quinlan combined a two-hitter as The Beach defeated CSUN 9-0 in the opening game of a Big West Conference softball series Friday afternoon.
Haddad struck out nine and walked one through four innings before giving way to Quinlan in the fifth. Both LBSU pitcher each issued a hit. Long Beach State scored three in the first, two in the second, three in the third, and one in the fourth.
Naomi Hernandez and Alyssa Gonzalez both recorded three hits for The Beach. Hernandez scored twice while Gonzalez had two RBI. CSUN committed four errors which resulted in four unearned runs. Aaliyah Swan and Journey Rojas each recorded a hit for CSUN.
"I think we came out flat," said CSUN head coach Charlotte Morgan. "Give a tip of the hat to Long Beach, they capitalized on the mistakes and the extra bases that we gave them. We couldn't get going and make any adjustments at the plate and in the circle. We can learn and grow from adversity. Let's come out, adjust and be better tomorrow."
CSUN (2-5, 2-5 Big West) concludes the series against LBSU (10-5, 6-1 Big West) Saturday with a doubleheader. Coverage on BigWest.tv begins at 1 p.m.
