NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team will play its lone non-conference set of games Wednesday afternoon when the Matadors host the University of San Diego. The doubleheader gets underway at 1 p.m. with both games being streamed on BigWest.tv. All links will be available on GoMatadors.com.
In partnership with the university and LA County health officials, CSUN Athletics has announced that limited spectators will be allowed into the final home athletic events this spring. Due to reduced capacity at CSUN venues, admission to athletics events will be limited to families of student-athletes.
Spectator policies went into effect starting with the CSUN-Cal State Fullerton baseball series Apr. 23. CSUN is committed to providing the best possible experience for its student-athletes competing during this time. All visitors to the CSUN campus will be required to complete the university health screening survey each day they will be attending a Matador athletic event. Parking on campus requires a valid CSUN parking permit and is enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week in all areas of campus.
Additionally, each attendee will need to present a California ID when checking in at the facility they are attending. Due to state guidelines, visitors must also wear masks at all times and follow physical distancing guidelines.
Only family members of current student-athletes will be allowed to attend the remaining games in person, subject to limited capacity. Capacity will be prioritized by student-athlete graduation class. Family members that are California residents were given access to register to attend each game on Apr. 26 before the series. Registration closed Tuesday at 5 pm. Guests will receive a confirmation before the game.
Family members will be required to complete the university self-screening survey before every game day and show proof of completion to the event staff at each game. Guests will have their temperature checked and receive a wristband when checking in at the ticket booth which should be worn at all times. No walk-ins will be allowed, and re-entry is prohibited. Concessions will not be available at Matador Diamond for the remaining spring games.
San Diego is 10-24. The Toreros have lost six in a row entering this week's play after being swept at BYU last weekend. Freshman Amanda Limon is leading the team in hitting (.286). Rion Simms has driven in a team-high 11 runs.
Seven different USD pitchers have seen time in the circle. McKenna Bragelmann paces the team in wins with five (5-1). Madison Earnshaw has pitched a squad-high 86.1 innings on her way to a 3-11 record. She leads the team in appearances (17), starts (15), and strikeouts (43).
This is the 14th and 15th meetings between CSUN and San Diego with the Matadors leading the all-time series 8-5.
The Matadors broke an 11-game losing streak on Apr. 25 when CSUN defeated UC Riverside 6-3. Kenedee Jamerson recorded the second three-hit game of her career as she reset her career-high with two RBI against the Highlanders. Freshman Eryka Gonzales tied her career-high as she struck out seven in 4.2 innings of relief against UCR. CSUN had dropped the first two of the games of the series. The Matadors begin the week with a 3-15 record.
