NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Stepping out of Big West softball play for the only time this season, CSUN swept a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader from the University of San Diego at Matador Diamond.
GAME 1
The Matadors battled back from a pair of deficits and for the second consecutive game, Kenedee Jamerson drove in the game winning run as CSUN defeated San Diego 4-3 in eight innings in the opener.
AJ Kaiser led off the San Diego second with a home run to break the seal for the Toreros. CSUN threatened in the bottom of the fourth. Savannah Favre opened the inning with a single. With two outs, Sami Garcia reached on an infield single. Both Matadors advanced a base on an error on the play by shortstop Amanda Limon. Paloma Usquiano ran the count to 3-2 against McKenna Braegelmann before Braegelmann's breaking pitch struck out Usquiano looking for the final out.
Haile Kyler tripled to begin the USD fifth. With one out, a Savannnah Alarcon hit a grounder back to Jamerson in the circle. Jamerson looked back Kyler and threw to first for the out. Kyler broke on the throw and was able to score safely and make it a 2-0.
Tatum Wentworth led off the Matadors' fifth with a single. Kayla Dominguez pinch-ran for the CSUN catcher as Aaliyah Swan came to bat. Swan's sacrifice bunt was successful, moving Dominguez to second. Alexis Lemus grounded out to Braegelmann as Dominguez took third. Journey Rojas grounded out to short to end the inning.
Favre walked to lead off the CSUN sixth. Katlin Entrup relieved Braegelmann to face Jaymi Steward. Entrup walked Steward. Jamerson worked the count to 3-2 when Entrup uncorked a wild pitch to the backstop that allowed both runners to move up a base. Jamerson hit a hot shot to third. Sofia Delgado picked the ball off the high hop and threw to first for the out as both runners stayed at their respective bases. Garcia's single to center plated Favre as Steward moved to third. Usquiano's sac fly to center scored Steward to tie the game. Wentworth would be retired for the third out.
Delgado began the USD seventh with a single down the left field line. With one out she moved to second on an Eryka Gonzales wild pitch. Gonzales, who relieved Jamerson to begin the seventh got Kyler to fly out to center. With Hayley Hensley at the plate, Delgado stole third. Gonzales put down the threat as she induced a Hensley ground out to third for the final out.
Swan led off the CSUN seventh with an infield single. Lemus struck out against the third pitcher of the game for the Toreros, Courtney Rose. Swan headed to second on the wild pitch on the third strike. Rojas flew out to right, but it wasn't deep enough to score Swan who had stolen third on the previous pitch. Favre grounded out to second to send the game to extra innings.
With Hensley placed on second due to the international rule, Alarcon's sac bunt pushed Hensley to third. Limon successfully laid down a suicide squeeze to score Hensley and give the Toreros the 3-2 lead. Sophia Bjerk grounded out back to Gonzales for third out.
Favre was placed on third due to the international rule. Steward's blooper to left landed safely, Hensley bobbled the ball trying to throw Favre out at third, which allowed the Matador left fielder to advance. On the first Rose pitch to Jamerson, Steward stole second. Jamerson singled up the middle to drive in the tying and winning runs.
Garcia recorded her first two-hit of the season as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Limon and Rion Simms, the 1-2 batters in the USD lineup combined for four of the eight San Diego hits (two each).

ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CHARLOTTE MORGAN
"I am excited for our team and the effort they put forth today. I thought we stuck together when things weren't going our way in game one. We got some key hits when it counted. It doesn't have to be pretty, but it's always the last pitch. Eryka did a great job in the second game, making some adjustments after they got a couple of runs early. Our defense made some good plays behind her. Our offensive kept plugging away. It was great to see things come together and to have our fans back in the stands."
