Tshani Named Big West Field Athlete of the Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN's junior Mathieu Tshani earned Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in his career, the league office announced Wednesday.

Originally from Lille, France, Tshani posted a career-best performance in the triple jump last week at Matador Invitational, winning the event with a mark of 50-11 3/4. The victory was his fourth straight in a jumping event and his third triple jump win of 2021.

Over the last four weeks, Tshani has charted triple jump wins at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational on April 10 and CSUN's Red & Black Invitational on April 2. He also won the long jump event with a leap of 23-0 1/4 at the Cal Poly Spring Break Challenge on March 24.

Tshani is the first Matador athlete to earn the Big West's weekly award on the men's side this season.

The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams wrap up the regular season this week with a three-day meet beginning Thursday, hosted by UC Riverside and Long Beach State.
