LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego swept a Big West Conference softball doubleheader from CSUN Saturday afternoon at Triton Softball Field.
GAME 1
UC San Diego defeated CSUN 9-0 in five innings to begin the day.
The Tritons loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first. With Isabel Lavrov at the plate, UCSD scored on an Eryka Gonzales wild pitch. Lavrov recorded a sacrifice fly to drive in the second UC San Diego run.
Journey Rojas and Alexis Lemus posted back-to-back hits with two outs in the top of the third against Tritons' starter Robyn Wampler. Sami Garcia hit a screaming line drive that was grabbed out of the air by UCSD left fielder Keila Bosinger to end the frame.
The Tritons scored seven times in the bottom of the third. The rally was highlighted by a grand slam home run by pinch-hitter Gabby Williams.
Bosinger went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to pace UCSD. Five different Tritons drove in a run as six different UCSD players recorded a hit. Wampler allowed only the two hits that occurred in the third inning. Her complete game featured five strikeouts.
GAME 2
UC San Diego (14-18, 10-11 Big West) defeated CSUN 12-4 in the nightcap. The Tritons batted around in the bottom of the first inning and scored four times to take the lead.
Jaymi Steward walked to lead off the Matador second. Kenedee Jamerson reached on an error, advancing to second as Steward took third. Aaliyah Swan grounded out to second to drive in Steward. Paloma Usquiano was hit by a Williams pitch. Jordan Kaeka's sacrifice fly plated Jamerson to cut the UCSD lead in half. Rojas' liner to third was caught by Sophia Real to keep CSUN at two.
UC San Diego increased the lead in the bottom of the third. Danica Kazakoff's fielder's choice to second drove in Deena Peterson for a 5-2 score. Bosinger's ground out to second scored Kinley Kyro to make it 6-2. Real followed with an RBI single. Bobbi Aguirre's completed the rally with a two-run home run.
Rojas led off the CSUN fifth with an infield single. Lemus hit a comebacker to Williams in the circle. Williams tried to throw out Rojas at second, but the ball sailed into centerfield. Garcia grounded into 4-6 fielder's choice, retiring Lemus on the play. Rojas was able to advance to third. Savannah Favre walked on fourth consecutive Williams pitches. Steward popped up to second. Jamerson grounded to Williams for the final out.
With one out in the sixth, Usquiano doubled off UCSD reliever Shelby Thompson. Kaeka followed with a walk. Rojas singled up the middle which allowed Usquiano to score. Lemus hit into a 4-6 fielder's choice. Rojas was out on the play, but Kaeka reached third. Garcia singled to center to drive in Kaeka. Kaia Simpson relieved Thompson to face Favre. Thompson induced a ground out to third to retire the Matadors.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, UC San Diego rattled off three consecutive hits. Gonzales, who relieved Jamerson in the fourth, hit Kyro to score the 10th run of the game. Vanessa Tirado singled, drove in a run, and kept the bases loaded. Bosinger was hit by a pitch for an RBI, increasing the lead to 12-4 which kicked in the mercy rule and the win.
In addition to her home run, Aguirre went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Real had two hits. Usquiano and Rojas combined for four of the five CSUN hits (two each).
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CHARLOTTE MORGAN
"UC San Diego came out and took care of business. We did not do a good job in the circle or on defense. Offensively, we had some good at-bats, but it is hard when you're playing from behind in every inning. We have to come out with better energy and compete on every pitch."

The Matadors (5-18, 3-18 Big West) host UC Santa Barbara (10-30, 7-11 Big West) next Friday and Saturday before welcoming the United States Olympic National Team to Northridge for a Sunday 10-inning exhibition.
