The match against the Beach will be 648 days removed from the Matadors' last game competed in Nov. 2019 at the Big West Tournament. In 2019, the Matadors tied a school record with 12 wins and would advance to their second Big West Tournament championship game in three years but Cal State Fullerton would claim the conference title.
CSUN has returned 17 letterwinners, which include four all-conference honorees from 2019. In net, Taylor Thames was impressive in four appearances, posting three shutouts for the Matadors in 2019. Another key defender returning is Gabriela Robles who appeared in 22 matches and contributed to the team's 11 shutouts.
The Matadors also boast 11 newcomers including three Division I transfers, five true freshmen and three freshmen in their second year with the program. Midfielder Brooke Mobeck, who joined CSUN in 2020, appeared in 18 matches with Oregon State in 2019 while forward Christiane Sundstrom saw action in 11 games in two years with Utah State. The Matadors broke a seven-match winless streak against the Beach in 2019 with a 1-0 win at Matador Soccer Field. CSUN has gone 7-4-1 all-time at home against Long Beach State.
The Matadors will play Iowa State for the first-ever time in women's soccer on Sunday afternoon. CSUN is seeking its first win over a team from the Big 12 Conference since 2010 when the Matadors defeated Kansas in a neutral-site game, 1-0 in overtime.
