CSUN to Host Cal Poly; Travel to CSUB This Week

WHAT'S COMING UP FOR CSUN SOCCER
The Matadors (5-4-3, 2-2 Big West) host Cal Poly on Wednesday night before traveling to CSU Bakersfield on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed by ESPN+ beginning at 7 p.m. Ghizal Hasan will have the call in Northridge. All links will be on GoMatadors.com.

ABOUT CAL POLY
Max Kleinhammes tied Saturday's match against UC Riverside with 18 seconds remaining for his second goal of the night and give the Mustangs a 2-2 decision against the Highlanders.

Cal Poly is 1-1-2 in Big West play, 1-9-2 overall. Kleinhammes is tied for the team lead in goals (3) with Tony Ruiz. Ruiz paces the squad in points (8), assists (2), and shots (16).

Three different goalies have seen time in between the pipes for the Mustangs with Gabe Penner posting the best record at 1-4-2. Victor Rodriguez is 0-5 but has a team-high 22 saves.
The Matadors and Cal Poly have played men's soccer dating back to CSUN's inaugural season in 1978. The Mustangs have won two in a row in the series as the Matadors lead the all-time series 31-19-10.

ABOUT CSUB
 The Roadrunners allowed an 87th-minute goal to UC San Diego last Saturday night to fall 2-1 to the Tritons. CSUB is 2-8-2, 0-3-1 in the Big West.

Carlos Armendariz and Rene Cortez have both scored twice and posted an assist this season to lead the 'Runners. Armendariz's 30 shots in 2022 are tied for third in the Big West with two other players.
Flippo Dadone has started all 12 matches for CSU Bakersfield, playing 1043 of a possible 1080 minutes. He has made 47 saves, tying him with CSUN's Cooper Wenzel for third in the league entering this week's action.

The Matadors won the program's 450th match at Sacramento State on Oct. 5. CSUN began varsity soccer in 1978 and has a 450-318-89 overall record.

LAST WEEK
The Matadors split a pair of matches. Levin Gerhardt's goal in the 84th minute sent CSUN past Sacramento State 2-1 last Wednesday in Sacramento. With 6:19 to go, a straight red card was issued to Sacramento State's Ali Sasankhah for a tackle. Four seconds later, AJ Johnson took the free kick off the red and sent the ball towards the goal where Gerhardt flicked it into the bottom left of the Hornets' goal.Â

The Matadors broke the seal in the fifth minute when Marley Edwards scored. Edwards floated his shot to the upper right corner from the top right of 18. Dylan Gonzalez was credited with the assist on the play.

UC Davis scored in the 12th minute of the first half and the tally held up as the Aggies defeated CSUN 1-0 last Saturday in Northridge. The Matadors outshot the Aggies 12-3 and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
