COACH JOHN PRICE SAID
"Tonight was pretty good reflection of our entire season. We played very well in stretches and had a ton of opportunities in the sets we lost but just made too many mistakes. In set three, we served and passed better than they did and in the other three sets their serving and passing was the difference."
SET 1
Hawai'i never trailed through the first two frames. In the opening set, a 4-0 scoring run by the visitors gave the 'Bows an early 8-3 lead. The Matadors responded by scoring the next five to knot the score at 8-8. A 6-2 run gave UH some breathing room at 14-10 lead and from there, UH would slowly pull away to take Set 1, 25-18.
SET 2
The Rainbow Wahine led by as many as six (16-10) in the second set when a Nevarez kill fueled a 7-2 Matador run that tied the score up at 19-19. Hawai'i would then outscore CSUN 6-2 down the stretch to seal the 25-20 win and a two-set match lead.
SET 3
The Matadors had 16 kills on .419 hitting as they stayed alive in the third set. CSUN claimed its first lead of the match at 2-1 and never looked back. Clinging to a 14-12 lead, the Matadors outscored the Rainbow Wahine 7-1 over the next eight points to open up a 21-14 cushion. The visitors closed to within five on a pair of occasions before a Hawai'i miscue sent CSUN to the 25-18 win.
SET 4
After hitting .419 in the third, the Matadors were limted to a -.100 clip in the fourth as Hawai'i led from start-to-finish. Igiede accounted for six of UH's first eight points with five kills and an ace. Hawai'i would lead by as many as 15 at 22-7 and cruised to their 19th conference win of the season, 25-9.
