FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Baseball (9-6) returns to midweek action when it takes on Loyola Marymount at Page Stadium on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on the WCC Network.
Probable Pitching Matchup
CSUN at Loyola Marymount
RHP Lucas Braun (0-2, 7.27 ERA) vs. RHP Michael Nunez (0-0, 4.35 ERA)
The Matadors return to Southern California after finishing up a three-game road series at McNeese State this past weekend. CSUN has played the last eight games away from home, which have also included a three-game series at Stanford and two-game midweek series at Grand Canyon. After Tuesday, the Matadors will play a three-game series to open Big West Conference play at Cal Poly beginning Friday. CSUN has gone 4-4 during this road stretch.
Tuesday represents the 113th all-time meeting between CSUN and LMU. In a series that dates back to the 1960 season, CSUN leads by a 58-54 margin, however, the Lions have won the last six meetings. From 2001 to 2014, the teams played each season at least once but would not play again until 2017 when LMU won twice over CSUN. The teams' last meeting during the 2017 season took place on April 25 at Matador Field where the Lions prevailed 18-10. CSUN's last win over LMU came on March 20, 2012, in a 12-1 win.
CSUN is coming off its first road series win of the season last weekend as the Matadors won two of three at McNeese State. The Matadors pounded out 15 hits in the opener, scoring five times in the middle innings and three more in the eighth to prevail 9-6. CSUN would lead for nearly the entire time in the middle game of the series, but McNeese hit a game-tying home run in the ninth and a walk-off homer in the 10th to even the series with a 4-3 triumph. In the rubber match, Blaine Traxel pitched into the eighth inning and the CSUN bullpen held on late for a 6-4 win to clinch the weekend set.
The Matadors' series win at McNeese State represented the team's first non-conference road series win (three or four games) since beating USC two of three times in 2018.
All three Matador starters pitched into at least the seventh inning in the McNeese State series led by Blake Sodersten who earned the win in game one by tossing eight innings with four runs allowed. Ryan Wentz worked 6.2 innings with two runs allowed in game two, leaving with the lead, but received a no-decision. Traxel closed the series by surrendering three runs in seven-plus innings.
On the offensive end, Bart Went finished with a team-high five hits in the series and batted .455 while Ali Camarillo produced three RBI and a .400 average at the plate (4-for-10). Jakob Simons had four hits and two RBI in the opener of the series as he batted leadoff all three games. Gabe Gonzalez missed the first two games of the series but returned on Sunday and hit a home run.
Heading into the week, Kai Moody shares the Big West lead in home runs with Gonzalez with four while Moody is also first in runs (14) and second in RBI (15). Gonzalez ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.634) and sixth in on-base percentage (.481). On the pitching side, Traxel paces the conference with 29.0 innings pitched while he shares the league-lead in wins with Sodersten at three victories. Wentz is sixth in the Big West in ERA at 2.05.
Junior right-hander Lucas Bruan will start Tuesday against LMU. In seven appearances all out of the bullpen, Braun has posted a 7.27 ERA with six strikeouts in 8.2 innings.

The Lions went 20-29 last season with a 13-14 mark in West Coast Conference play for a sixth-place finish in the league. Nathan Choate is in his third season as head coach of the program.
