#25 CSUN Travels to #5 Hawai'i for Big West Match

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---No. 25 CSUN Water Polo (8-9, 0-3 Big West) heads to No. 5 Hawai'i for a Big West match on Saturday at 6 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ while live stats will also be available.
The Matadors resumed Big West play last Friday with a home loss to UC Santa Barbara by a 10-7 margin. CSUN fell behind 4-1 in the match before roaring back to even the score at 5-5 at halftime. Dorottya Telek hit a goal early in the fourth period to bring CSUN to within 8-7 with six minutes to play but the Gauchos scored two times down the stretch to secure a victory. Telek finished with two goals and two assists in the match while Tatiana Smeltzer added two goals. Meghan Lopez racked up 12 saves in front of the cage for CSUN.
Heading into the weekend, Telek remains tied with Long Beach State's Orsi Hertzka for the Big West lead in goals with 50. Telek is also second in the conference in points (70) and sixth in assists (20) while she has 23 steals and 10 field blocks. Anna Pal ranks second in the conference in assists (25) to go with 28 goals and 53 points. Kylee Jansen is third on the team in scoring with 21 goals and 27 points. In front of the net, Lopez has the fourth-most saves in the Big West with 115.
The Matadors are 4-17 against Hawai'i in the all-time series. Hawai'i has won the last six meetings in the series including an 18-3 decision at the Triton Invitational on Feb. 12. CSUN's last win in the series took place on March 7, 2015, in a 7-6 win in Honolulu.
A Closer Look at Hawai'i
The Rainbow Wahine holds a 10-4 record on the season with a 1-0 mark in Big West play. Prior to hosting CSUN, Hawai'i will take on third-ranked USC on Friday. In last week's action, Hawai'i defeated UC Davis (13-5) and Pacific (9-4).
Lara Luka and Elyse Lemay-Lavoie share the team lead with 28 goals apiece while Luka has the most points with 38. Lucia Gomez de la Puente has a team-best 12 assists to go with 13 goals. In front of the cage, Bridget Layburn has 50 saves with a 9.82 goals-against-average.
