NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN Women's Soccer team has announced the 2022 schedule, highlighted by five NCAA Tournament teams and nine matches played at Matador Soccer Field.
Among the Matadors' opponents this fall, CSUN will visit the national runner-up BYU in early September while the Matadors host USC for the first time since the 2012 season. CSUN faces nine teams with winning records a year ago and three reigning conference champions.
Before kicking off the regular season, the Matadors will host West Coast Conference champion Santa Clara in an exhibition match on Aug. 13.
CSUN officially starts the 2022 campaign with a matchup at Pepperdine on Aug. 18 in the first of a three-match road trip. The Waves are coming off a trip to the NCAA Round of 16 last season. Then, after facing California Baptist (Aug. 20), the Matadors visit another NCAA Tournament team, reigning Pac-12 champion UCLA on Aug. 25. CSUN opens the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, Aug. 28, when it hosts Loyola Marymount at Matador Soccer Field.
September begins with a challenging two-match road trip against Utah Valley (Sept. 1) and BYU (Sept. 3). Then, CSUN returns home for another tough test when USC visits Northridge on Thursday, Sept. 8. The Matadors wrap up a three-match swing against NCAA Tournament teams by hosting defending Big West champion UC Irvine in a non-conference match (Sept. 11).
Big West play kicks off on the road this season as the Matadors visit CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Sept. 15. CSUN hosts Portland State in its final non-conference match on Sept. 18 before welcoming in Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Sept. 22. The month of September wraps up with a road match at UC Davis (Sept. 25) and a home contest with UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 29).
CSUN continues a three-match homestand against Cal Poly (Oct. 2) and Hawai'i (Oct. 6). The Matadors play three of their final four matches on the road to wrap up the regular season, beginning with clashes with UC Irvine (Oct. 13) and Long Beach State (Oct. 16). After CSUN concludes the home schedule with UC San Diego (Oct. 23), the Matadors visit UC Riverside on Thursday, Oct. 27, in the regular season finale.
This year marks the first time the Big West will allow six teams to compete in the Big West Women's Soccer Championship. The tournament begins on Oct. 30 with quarterfinals matchups before continuing the following week with semifinal matches on Nov. 3. The Big West Championship match is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 6.
