NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head women's basketball coach Carlene Mitchell has announced the hiring of Rachel Schrote as an assistant coach.
"I am pleased to add Rachel to my staff," said Mitchell. "The time she spent at the WNBA level stood out as we rounded out our staff."
Schrote is a WNBA veteran who spent three seasons (2019-21) as a video coordinator for the Los Angeles Sparks. She worked for the Seattle Storm in 2018 when the club won the WNBA title as an operations, video, and equipment intern.
"Adding a coach who knows what it takes to succeed in the WNBA, the work behind the scenes, will benefit our players who aspire to play at the next level," Mitchell said.
Schrote served as an assistant coach at Pepperdine (2021-22), as an assistant video coordinator at UCLA (2018-21), and as a graduate assistant at Gonzaga (2017-18).
Schrote has also coached at the prep level in Washington with Shorecrest High School (2016-17) and Bellingham High School (2014-16). Both schools reached the Washington State Tournament.
Schrote graduated from Western Washington in 2016 with a degree in physical education and health, and she received a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership and coaching from Washington in 2018.
"Women's basketball is ever-evolving, including video technology as a teaching tool," said Mitchell. "Rachel's knowledge of film for player development and scouting will be integral for our program."
