NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---With the summer baseball season drawn to a close, members of the CSUN Baseball team have made their way onto campus to prepare for the 2022-23 year. This summer proved to be another successful one for Matador mainstays and newcomers to the program. Members from the team won three league championships during the summer while several had breakout stints on the field and took home individual awards.

Among the many standouts, Joey Kramer had one of the more outstanding campaigns in helping the Healdsburg Prune Packers win the California Collegiate League (CCL). Kramer nearly won the triple crown in the league en route to taking home Most Outstanding Player honors. The Matador first baseman topped the league with a .400 batting average and 51 RBI while he ranked second with 11 home runs. Kramer also hit .600 at the plate in the Prune Packers' playoff championship run.
Several Matadors migrated to the Alaska Baseball League (ABL) with a total of five helping the Anchorage Glacier Pilots win a league championship. In a Matador reunion, shortstop Ali Camarillo and pitchers Xavier Martinez, Lucas Braun, Brayden Hiraki and Isaac Ontiveros once again had the opportunity to play for former CSUN head coach Dave Serrano over the summer months.
Camarillo drove in a team-high 25 runs to go with a .302 batting average as he earned the ABL Gold Glove award for his defensive work. Receiving first-team all-league honors, Martinez was impressive on the bump, posting a 1.52 ERA and 27 strikeouts in eight appearances as he limited the opposition to a .163 average. Braun would pitch in the first half of the summer, but in his short stint, he posted a miniscule 0.75 ERA with 26 strikeouts and allowed just two runs in 24 innings.
Elsewhere in the ABL, Shunsuke Sakaino won the league batting title with a .349 average as a member of the Peninsula Oilers. Sakaino racked up 45 hits and swiped 22 stolen bases while posting a .444 on-base percentage. The Matador sophomore also was named first-team all-league and collected a Golf Glove at second base.

Another left-handed bat, Andrew Sojka brought plenty of power to the plate during his time with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders of the Northwoods League. Making the trek to Wisconsin this summer, Sojka slashed .374/.474/.675 at the dish to go with 39 runs, 27 RBI, 10 stolen bases and eight homers. Sojka also participated in the Northwoods League Major League Dreams Showcase where he homered.
Heading north, Mason Le won a league title with the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League. Le claimed an honorable mention award this summer after posting 44 hits, 23 RBI and 15 stolen bases to go with a .270 batting average.
Matador catcher Graysen Tarlow spent time in the Northwoods League, playing for the Willmar Stingers in Minnesota. Tarlow, who returned to the field from an injury sustained this spring, slashed .455/.536/.564 at the plate in helping the Stingers win the second-half title of the Great Plains West Division.
In the CCL, Jakob Simons was sidelined for six weeks but battled back onto the field to help the SLO Blues advance to the CCL State Championship. Simons batted .357 during the team's playoff run.
Three Matadors played for the Humboldt Crabs this summer including Kevin Fitzer who batted .341 with 45 runs, 35 RBI and 23 walks. Matador newcomer Javy Felix would slash .387/.507/.571 for the Crabs who won 36 games while Drew Porter played in 31 games.
Rounding out the Matador returners, Nathan Barraza had the opportunity play for the Winchester Royals of the Valley Baseball League while Joey Daini played for the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox in the Bay Area Collegiate League.
A CSUN newcomer, left-handed pitcher Jon Mocherman claimed first-team all-league honors with the Cowlitz Black Bears of the West Coast League (WCL). Mocherman went 5-0 on the mound with a 2.85 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 41 innings. Elsewhere in the WCL, newcomer Luc Stuka spent the first half of the summer with the Wenatchee AppleSox where he batted .351 in 15 games.
A UCLA transfer, Emanuel Dean spent a first-half stint with the Palm Springs Power where he slashed .400/.483/.560 while junior college transfer Camron Mercurio would bat .293 for the Sacramento Heat of the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League. Another junior college transfer, Kenji Pallares spent time with the Arroyo Seco Saints in the CCL where he appeared in five games on the mound.
